BloomMD updates
BloomMD and the Elastic License 2.0
New BloomMD versions use ELv2. Previously published versions keep their original MIT license.
The BloomMD source tree from the Marketing 0.5.1 release commit onward is licensed under the Elastic License 2.0 (ELv2). BloomMD Desktop 0.5.15 is the first desktop release under these terms. Its packages include the ELv2 text and the historical MIT notice.
This does not retroactively change the license of published versions: Desktop 0.5.14 and earlier releases remain under MIT. The separately released Obsidian plugin stays under MIT, including version 0.7.0 and later.
ELv2 allows use, modification, and redistribution of the code subject to its terms. In particular, it limits offering the software to third parties as a hosted or managed service and protects license notices. Read the full terms on our license page and in the ELv2 license text.
The license change does not make the currently private BloomMD monorepo public as of this announcement. See the download page for the versions currently available.
Update, October 25, 2026: BloomMD source code is now public. The license boundaries for earlier releases remain as described above.
